A Poem by Tim Peeler

KING JAMES VERSION OF SUMMER

The first plague will be empty mailboxes
for the ones that watch eye for eye through mercy curtains.

The second plague will be tardy trash trucks,
an earthquake of them lumbering like mules.

Then the Lord will appear on talk radio
to make a brief disturbing announcement.

The third plague will be endless arguments
about the brief disturbing announcement.

Egyptians will chase Hebrews down highways;
rich Texan females will seek fallen kings.

The fourth plague will sit behind a desk and sweat,
breathing a blue plate glass prayer into steam.
